3Setup Tips
By Jack L. Langdon
I bought this set for the bedroom, where we have it mounted in the top part of a piece of furniture. The picture was very dark until I went through the details of the setup menu and found that there is an energy saver mode designed to meet energy star requirements. Be sure to turn this off if you can't adjust the picture as bright as you want it. The picture was still dark and blotchy when used the first night. I found that the display technology used has a VERY narrow field of view (~15 degrees) in the vertical direction. I wedged up the base from the back so it pointed down at the bed and now the picture is OK. This set is on digital cable and the picture is now acceptable (not great, but OK considering the price). On the plus side, the sound is good for bedroom use and the remote has a one button sleep mode. I would definitely recommend this set for a bedroom if you can mount it fairly low or tip it down 10 or 15 degrees.

4Not flush mount
By Saul Goode
I wanted this for my RV and I wanted to mount it flush to the wall but the configuration of the jacks make the RCA plugs attach parallel to the back of the unit and stick out too far to be flush mounted. Other than that, nice set.

5Good TV
By Jeffit
I have had this a while, and was wary as it showed up laying flat and I was told that these should always be upright as much as possible, but they're not so sensitive as a plasma and this has been working fine despite that. It was a good price and has a good assortment of inputs/outputs. I recommend it for a entertainment center opening or the top of a dresser or desk.

5It Doesn't Look Real
By S. Hill
When my friend asked me to come over to see his "amazing new tv" all I could think about is what will I say when I see no difference from my own. I couldn't have been more shocked when he turned it on. JVC has done an incredible job with this set. The picture clarity and color is so realistic it almost appears 3D; people seem to be standing in front of you rather than on a screen. It is challenging to describe so if you have the option to see this product live, you will understand immediately how radically different it is. Additionally, the sound system is superb for a 32" television. My friend disconnected his external surround-sound system so that I could hear the JVC audio bar and I think it sounded better. I am extremely impressed by this product and will likely replace my Sharp, which is only two years old, but the JVC quality really is that much better.

5The reviews were right
By John
I'm a little OCD when it comes to buying anything over $50, so I did a lot research before I bought my 32" JVC flat screen. It cost a little more than a lot of other TVs in that catagory, but it was well worth it. As I unpacked the set, I was impressed with how well protected it was in the box and the unit came out without a single blemish. After a few basic set-up instructions, I turned it on and followed the guide and was blow away with what I saw.Music and sound are as important to me as the picture. Because the TV is in the bedroom I didn't want to take up a lot of space with speakers but wanted decent sound. The reviews I read on Amazon were very good for sound and that was a big reason for my purhase. I was not disappointed.I am also a terrible "after shopper" to be sure I got the best deal and the best product. I was so satisfied with this JVC I'm not interested in looking at anything else. If you a looking for a good value for your money, this is an excellent unit.

4Great after the first night!
By Christopher J. Scott
I just bought this T.V. based on reviews I read on the web that (1) the JVC BlackCrystal edition televisions offered superior video thanks to a partnership with AmTran Electronics, the Hong Kong based R&D/manufacturer of top notch display technology, and (2) the set offered superior audio quality. Here are my initial reactions after an hour of watching the actual T.V.First, setup is really easy, just like the other reviews say. Heck, JVC even ships a philips screwdriver with the set to facilitate the buyer's ability to screw four screws in. Four turns of the screws, align the pedestal, turn another screw and the JVC is ready to go.I connected the set to our cable box using component video cables. This is rather old technology, but it is the technology I had on hand. Once everything was plugged in, the set walked me through a setup program that was easy, until the tuner tried to scan channels. Now, maybe I am an idiot, but the scan found no channels because the cable channels are running through the component viewer. This was a minor annoyance, however, but one that should have been caught by the JVC engineers. Alas, it is just worth mentioning this fact so others do not waste 6 minutes with the tuner trying to find channels that aren't there.Once everything was up and running (about 20 minutes from opening the box to sitting on my couch watching the boob tube), I have to say, the picture on this set rocks! It really is wonderful. The sound system, well, that is another issue. But buyer, don't let my picky ears stop your purchase. Let me explain.I am a music nut. I also have really sharp hearing. So, when a company like JVC plays up the audio quality of a product, I have high expectations. These were not met, but the set does sound better than any other set in our house if just the native speakers are used. So, there is that!Honestly, if you are someone who believes a T.V. should do one thing well -- have top notch video quality -- then JVC BlackCrystal line seems like it is for you. After all, if you want internet connectivity, go buy a Roku for $79, plug it into the JVC, and you just saved about $200 bucks. The picture quality on this set is very good for an LCD screen (we have a plasma in our family room). The sound is better than average. Overall, for $329 I feel like we got a very good T.V. for our living room A.V. cabinet.

5Great Picture, Great Price
By Aaron D. Weber
I bought this TV a year ago and I love it and would get it today if I could. Picture is as good as plasma if not better. It is a 4:3 ratio, but you should just ask yourself what you watch more of TV or Movies. Right now the HD media that is coming out is getting to be everywhere. 5 NFL games on Sunday. 4-5 Xbox games in HD. HBO in HD, ESPN in HD, Discovery in HD, Prime time TV for the most part in HD. The picture has so much color and detail it is like night and day. Like putting black and white up against color and this TV is a great product to showcase that. Only knock on it is it ways 300 lbs so the stand (which has bevel edges) is recommended on carpet. With the stand anyone could move it anyplace in the room with ease. Great Buy!

4Great Television, Bad back!!
By D. Posey
I have owned this television for 3 years now and I am just as satisfied today when I power it up as I was the day I took it out of the box. The color is superb and the 40" screen is the ONLY one of its kind in a tube television. Sony has definitely proven itself worthy with this television. It's HD ready and the color/picture quality is unmatched by other tubes. You will even be hard pressed to find a LCD/Plasma in this size to compare w/ the quality. Definitely worth the time/money IF you can find one!!!! The ONLY drawback is this beauty's size/weight, find a good/strong friend to help you load/unload this beast!! Otherwise, you will get to experience EVERY single feature of this tv as you nurse your hernia!!!!!

4Great TV with amazing features!!
By S. Miller
i bought this tv as my first dip into the HD TV world, and i am shockingly impressed. the sound is amazing, the picture is flawless and the fact that it does NOT have a $300 bulb that needs to be replaced every few years makes it even better. yes, this TV is a monster, it is big and heavy but once you get it where you want it, it is 100% worth it. the features on the TV are great, and the fact that it has 7 inputs (3 of which are HD) means that i can plug in everything without having to worry about switching cables when it comes time to play a game or watch a DVD.Overall this tv gets a 9/10. it would be a 10 if it were not so heavy, that is the ONLY downside.

5What a dream!!!
By Wirerunnernyc
Bought this TV plus Sony BDV-T11 (Blu-ray Home Theater). Now, I can put a DVD in, and it turns on TV and starts playing onscreen! No menu surfing. Very nice! Easy out-of-the-box setup. As other reviewers mentioned...Turn off light sensor!!! Sony should disable this feature. It really does make the picture quality look really bad. Thanks to previous reviewers for mentioning this. You save me hours of grief. My main concern was reliability. I heard about most reliable being the three "S":-Sony-Samsung-SharpI saw too many posts mentioning Sharp power supply failures. Same for some Panasonic plasmas from last 2-3 years. Also heard some complaints about some of the Samsung models. Much less with this Sony model. So, I decided to buy it. I hope this post helps. God bless you and good luck!UPDATE: Nov. 2012 - Still have this TV. Still working fine. From the beginning, I did have it connected to a UPS and had a small turbo fan in back of TV to keep it cool.

5Great TV
By Richard Thomas Stone
This TV has plenty of inputs and outputs to hookup all of my components. The picture is excellent and the remote is easy to use and program for other components. I also purchased the internet video link box which is a nice addition. I would recommend this TV to anyone looking for a great picture and easy to setup.

5Bravia just keeps getting better
By P. Estwick
Ok..So I already have the 46-5100 in the Bravia series..nice TV but I had recurring problems with one of the two of them and eventually was introduced to this baby to replace the irritable one..the KDL 46VL160. I am thoroughly blown away with the amount of variety on this TV System. Internet, 7HDMI ( 4 HD inputs),Picture in Picture is back and numerous options for accessing functions. If you have a PS3 you will be more familiar as it follows the PS3 menu style of searching. The Bravia Synch is wonderful with the SONY Surround Sound System and the design is simply beautiful. Keep it up SONY.

4Great TV for the price
By W. Weigel
I bought this Toshiba to replace the 32" TCL LCD in my bedroom - gave the TCL to my son. Just got this TV yesterday and I wanted to give my first impressions and address some of the concerns listed in other reviews, both here and on other sites. The three main criticisms of this TV were:1. Only two HDMI ports - I only needed one or two ports anyway, so this did not bother me. If you are purchasing this as your main unit, you need to weigh this considerably. There are ways around it, such as a receiver with HDMI-in ports or an HDMI switch, but unless you own these already, it's money you could spend on a bigger TV.2. Sound - OK, the sound on this is not great, but it is not as bad as some people are making it out to be. I would say it is about average for TV's of this size and level (I install TV's in clients' conference rooms from time to time). I was really expecting it to be bad after some of the reviews, so when it pretty much sounded on par with my 32" TCL, it kind of made me laugh. I was also able to change the Dolby settings (Compressed or Normal - you have to decide what you like better) to improve the sound. What critics probably dislike is the lack of bass. There is pretty much no bass, but I feel the same way about every other TV of this size I have heard. It does not have RCA or analog out, so you cannot install computer speakers, like some reviewers have complained about. It does have an optical out, which is better because it is feature-forward. I have a Panasonic soundbar already, so I plugged the TV optical out into my soundbar and everything sounded great. I would never spend the money on a TV of this size and use the built-in speakers. At the very least, go with a sound bar. Panasonic makes a very good one and Vizio has one for under $100 on Amazon. My Panasonic is perfect for the bedroom - shows and movies are immersive and the voices are crystal clear. If you want a nice sound system with full bass and don't want to run wires or buy a receiver, get the Panasonic soundbar with the subwoofer. If you just want to significantly improve the sound of the TV, you can buy the soundbar with no subwoofer. It will do nicely (I do not have the subwoofer).3. Weak HD tuner - I have no idea what the critical reviewers are talking about. This TV picked up every QAM channel, including unencrypted digital, that my cable company provides. What this means is that I hooked the TV straight to my cable line and it picked up all of the local digital HD stations, the music stations, and cable analog stations. It performed as well as my other TV's with no problem. I then hooked up my indoor HD antenna and it picked up 38 stations, including every Milwaukee HD channel and some from Chicago. I live almost 50 miles from Milwaukee and 70 miles from Chicago. It worked as well or better than my other TV's. To put this in context, if I look up on the web what channels I am supposed to receive for my location, it lists 25 stations. I get 38. The TV also has a nice feature that shows how strong the signal is when you pull up a channel. All in all, the Toshiba is a great TV for the money, especially at $399.98. The picture quality is excellent and the screen has a nice matte finish, so there are no reflections. It is a 60Hz TV, so there will probably be some artifacting during Bluray movie action sequences, but that is to be expected. It was easy to set up and does everything I ask from a TV of this class.

4Great purchase thus far
By Paul M. Murphy
This is my first HD television although I've had experience working with them due to my job as a computer tech. The picture quality on this TV is on par with the better screens I've seen. When a BR disk is playing (connected with HDMI) it's astounding. The sound on the unit goes very high without the vibration I've heard other TVs produce at higher volumes. The high notes are a bit sharp on the unit at higher volumes and the only reason I gave it a 4 star on sound quality.Setup was simple...snap together some plastic for the base and plug it in.I've not used the unit with any other devices outside of my BR player. I've used Vudu, Netflix, normal DVDs and Blueray and all look great. Even the standard definition DVD and Netflix feeds look sharp. If you're wanting a TV that's simple to use without any fuss or tweaking with settings or configurations this one is perfect as that's what I was looking for in a TV.

5Just what I wanted
By Ding
After a long time waiting and searching and waiting I finally pulled the trigger on this TV. The sound is pretty poor as other reviewers have stated but I run our sound through the stereo system so it didn't really matter. Picture is very good, especially for the price. Good contrast and not a lot of fade when viewing from the side. If I used the sound I would likely have considered sending it back. But it's the perfect TV for what we use it for.

4Sony KDL-70XBR7
By J. Pena
This is an actual review of this TV. Not sarcasm. I bought tv about a 1 1/2 ago for about $6,ooo from amazon. Shipping was quick and hassle free. If I would have had problems with set, which I didn't, amazon would have picked it up with no problems, as they did with other sets prior to finding this tv.I am impressed with television, it has a great picture and very sharp. Colors are right on and can be tweaked very easily if the need arose. Sound is poor but not a concern when hooked up to a decent surround sound system. Sony also has provided a premium in home service contract if needed. Overall I am happy with set. Of course as with all technology it will become out dated soon.

First off, if you're just looking for a beautiful 70" 1080p TV, you can go with virtually any other brand, get full 480Hz 3D, and only spend $2500-$4500. Did I mention that this TV doesn't even have LED backlighting? All of those cheaper sets will, which provides a clearer picture and a 5-10x longer lifetime. Oh, and this one's not 3D, either. Secondly, if you ARE anxious to spend in the area of $20,000 to $30,000 for a TV, just wait 2 months for 4160p (4k) TVs to come out. 4k TVs are up to stadium sized (like a Jumbo-tron, up to 420"; but also room-size, 34"+) The picture is marvelous, and they provide 3D without 3D-glasses. (Once again, no 3D at all on this one).

1failed after 2 monthes
By Laura K. Rogers
I purchased this tv for $1,300.00 on Dec. 27, 2006, on Feb. 28, 2007 it would no longer turn on. I have contacted Philips and they have been completely unsatisfactory. I have since googled and found hundreds of consumers who have had the same problem and recieved horrible customer service. I expect a brand new tv to last longer than 2 months.I don't know how they manage to stay in business with this type of product and lack of customer service. Research Philips record on customer satisfaction before you throw away your money

5Philips 37PF9631D Review
By SciFi and Fantasy Fan
I bought this LCD television after seeing it next to three other models from Sony, Samsung and Sharp. It had a sharper picture and more depth of image than any of the others. Pixel Plus 2 HD, which is Philip's image processing utility, is what did the trick. The picture quality was just slightly better than the others but with Pixel Plus 2 HD turned on it was considerably better than the others. I usually prefer Sony XBR models but the picture quality won me over. With a 6 millisecond response time and a 6000:1 contrast ratio the specs are excellent. In addition blacks are black on this TV. The outer space scenes in Star Wars are deep black. The audio has been criticized but there is a graphic equalizer down in the menu to boost the high frequencies. Doing this makes the audio more than acceptable. In addition to contrast, brightness, sharpness etc. this TV has extensive capabilities in the picture menu which include Dynamic contrast, signal processing, active control, color enhancement and digital noise reduction. Signal processing turns Pixel Plus on or off. DNR or digital noise reduction works extremely well as it doesn't seen to affect sharpness at all. The other items modify the image constantly with each frame to produce a stunning picture. I've had the set now for almost six months with absolutely no problems. The picture quality from DVD's or OTA broadcasts in 720p or 1080i look fantastic. I can't say enough about this TV. I bought it primarily for the picture quality and I'm completely satisfied.

1watch out for overheating problem
By J. LI
I bought this TV as a gift for my parents 50th anniversary, initially the TV works well but after about a month, it would not turn on anymore. I talked with Philips and they said the video board is damaged due to overheating. Philips' service guy told me this problem right away, which tells me that they have seen this problem more than a few times. I am very disappointed.
