4Great TV, No Swivel Base
By J. Bambrough
Beware, this does not swivel as advertised by Amazon!! That is the only reason I bought the LG over the Sharp 19" tv was for the swivel base for the same price. We have the Sharp and we like it better for its aesthetics and picture quality. The LG also has a great picture and easy set up, we just were looking for a tv that would swivel. It does also tilt slightly up and down to accomodate high or low placement/viewing. So, if you want a fixed base, it is a good bet.

4Amazing sound quality
By CallMeB
I shipped this 19" TV to my cousin, who is a mad gaming freak. He has a playstation and he is always hooked up with his television. The best thing about this product is the sound quality. It is amazing to use it in a small room, and the picture quality is pretty good. You get free shipping for this product, which is great. The price is just perfect, in fact I would call it a steal.19" "may" [personal opinion] feel small for your living room and this is more apt for a smaller room.A good alternative is LG 22LH20 [22"], which you can get for [...] - http://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B001V5J7QQ?ie=UTF8&tag=tvrecommendations-20&linkCode=as2&camp=1789&creative=390957&creativeASIN=B001V5J7QQIf you are looking for a TV in your bedroom, go for this one. Its very easy to move around.

5First class TV
By Grump
Packed well, easy to install, good picture, good sound. Excellent kitchen TV. Gets all the HD channels in HD with no cable adapter even though I don't have that feature in my plan from Comcast. On my other TVs (With adapters and cable boxes) these channels are standard definition.

5Excellent LCD with overall ease of use
By M. Moreno
I bought this TV in June 2008 and have found it to be an absolutely great buy. I bought my at RC Willey. Yes, I read the CNET review and the reviewer marked down the TV because of the dark shades changing. I looked at this in the store for several minutes and have lived with it for a month and have not noticed that problem at ALL! Personally I think they guy shot down the SONY because Samsung is running TV advertisements on CNET. This is a super sharp TV with excellent colors and deep deep blacks. This TV is much better than the old 2007 W. Here is why I bought this TV...It is super clear in digital broadcast and does a much better job in Analog/420p SD (old) transmitions than any other TV I have seen (no jaggies..thanks to Sony noise reduction/DSP). Sony knows Bluray- they invented it, they know what skin tones should look like like (they own a movie studio), thier menus are really easy/simple to use (vs. Samsung 650), it has a built in TV guide (You can get rid of that Monthly cable box fee) and it has future expansion capability. On pure picture quality vs. Samsung 650: * Picture: It is pretty darn close in digital broadcast. I looked at both side by side. Samsung has a slight edge on clarity in analog broadcast. Samsungs have more glare, Sony is a matte screen but blacks on samsung are pretty darn good because of the glossy screen. When viewing a BluRay DVD though, the Sony slightly more details. No fade from bright to black issues on sony as noted by CNET (he must have had a protype system). Colors are nice a bright and bravia 2 engine is even better than XBR4 or near it. I have heard the Z series may be better but they don't make it in 52'' yet. * Menus: Samsungs menus are made for Engineers (lots of tweeks, but really confusing for average user). If you doubt it, download the user manual to the A650 and KDL524100 and see for yourself. If you and your family are highly technical, go for the Samsung. If you don't want to fiddle (aka get lost in menus), but get an excellent picture, go with the Sony. Sony's are really simple and easy to use, plus it automatically find digital channels and is somehow able to display all the channel icons (it is like I have a built in cable box).* Features: The Sony may not have the Ethernet and built in weather/news of the 650 Samsung, but it does have the built in TV guide and future expansion. Realistically, if you want Internet in your TV, you are better off connecting an external device (Playstation, Apple TV, etc). The TV guide feature in the sony is great and the Bravia Sync is a big plus (especially when you use a Sony DVD upconverter 1080p (nice one at costco)- why?...TV remote controls it all. Sony Picture n' Picture is nice as well allowing you to view pictures/video from HDMI while at the same time viewing cable TV (regardless if it is SD or HD signal)* Asthetics: My favorite feature on the sony is that the power buttons on on the top of the TV... helps with preventing kids from turning tV on/off. I believe Samsungs are too low. I personally didn't like the Red on the Samsung and the glossy screen. The remote on the Sony is really easy to find/use vs. the Samsung. But the Samsung's remote lit up at night...which the Sony's does not.Bottom line: if you are a videophile and your family (wife) can deal with the techno menus (plus you want to upgrade the firmware to fix the Samsung A650 on/off bug), get the Samsung. If you want the a super clear Picture (videophile made easy), easiest to use LCD with features that make every day TV viewing smooth and easy... The sony is excellent- Plus it is future expandible.Recommended Evaluation settings: Picture mode custom, backlight 7, Picture 95, Brightness 45, Color 50, Hue 0, Color temp Neutral, Sharpness 4, Noise Red. off, MPEG Noise red. off, Advanced settings-> Black corrector: med, Advance C.E Med, Gamma off, clear white low.

5Best 52" LCD HD-TV for the money
By Ali S.
I did a lot of research when I decided to buy a 52" TV. I'm a student and a part-time salesman at a fortune 100 company in consumer electronics. After weeks or perhaps months of preparation and research I narrowed down my options to the Samsung A750 and the Sony bravia w4100. Now I did have a Samsung A550 and a Sony Trinitron High Def CRT at home and they were both pretty impressive but I figured that Sony does a better job in 52" or larger category after observing the w4100 and a750 for several days at work.First off lets talk about the screen. The 50'000:1 contrast of the Samsung vs. 30'000:1 contrast ratio of the Sony. The way Samsung measures its contrast ratio is radically different from Sony, that is why Samsung never discloses its "TRUE CONTRAST RATIO", but Sony does. In this case sony's true contrast is 3,000:1. Whatever the true contrast ratio of Samsung, it is not superior to that of Sony's. This is something that most experts agree on. It is easy to blast your dynamic contrast ratio but not your true contrast. Some claim that the Samsung produces deeper blacks but my answer is that this is due to Samsung's glossy mirrored screen and it has nothing to do with performance. The mate screen of sony absorbse white light coming from backlight or any ambient lighting from the room. This causes the blacks not to appear as deep or fake as the samsungs. Plus, Samsung manufactures all of Sony LCD screens so in terms of screen capability they are equal. If you have a bright room go for the sony, the screen is slightly brighter and not reflective like the Samy. The backlight for Sony seems to work brighter but its not as evenly distributed as the Samy, this is clear in the dark.Second factor I checked for was the TV engine. We have the Samsung's Dnie Pro vs. Bravia 2. Well there is no question that bravia 2 is the clear winner here, being utilized by Sony XBR6 and XBR7 which go for about $4000 dollars while the Samsung's DNIE pro is built to compete with the lower end Sony Bravia Engine Pro. Sony's Standard TV quality is excellent and the Samy is just as good but i noticed that Sony's colour was more natural ie. colour of grass in baseball. Also sony covers over %90 of colour Gamut while Samsung covers only %70, this maybe why skin tones and greens look more natural on the Sony.Next up was refresh rate and here both run at 120 Hz and here Sony has dramatically improved over the XBR4 series in motionflow. Samsung also does really well in 120 Hz category so I say they are both a tie here.Sound is another important factor for my decision, i blasted the 7 series at work and noticed poor sound quality in extreme volumes while the Sony better retained its quality. However the Samsung was capable of delivering deeper Bass probably due to its built in Subwoofer. Sony allows you to adjust voice volume and enable steady sound to prevent commercials from freaking you out in the middle of your favourite tv shows. But be aware this may cause low volume in sudden loud scenes in movies. Finally last thing I looked for was design. Samsung 7 series looks fabulous with its glass like frame and a touch of red, but that is the problem for me, "red". I don't fancy a red TV and I think it's one of those fashion trends that would soon be "old fashioned". Sony however retains a more masculin design with fine glossy black frame and metal speakers at the bottom. Its a pretty close call but having used both Sony and Samsung (sony for longer) i feel that sony is more capable of delivering quality products as most Japanese manufacteres do. Also sony has great customer service vs Samsung i have had a sony TV break once and there was a repair man at my door step in less than 12 hours servicing my TV at home (bulb replacement in a old projection tv). Sony is the innovator here while Samsung is the follower, that's one reason why i chose the sony. Biggest factor for me was the superior Sony TV engine and better design. Oh and by the way sony is slightly thinner.Sony is the best your money can buy for a TV overall, as it always has been since the day of Trinitron. [...]Pros:- Excellent Picture Quality- Deep dark blacks- Motion Enhancer- Covers 90% color gamut- Vertical viewing angle- Great Sound/Audio performanceCons:- Horizontal Viewing Angle- lacks picture Shadow details

5Great investment
By Dr Watson
***Updated*** (with new settings post firmware upgrade)I have had this TV for 5 months now and could not be happier. This set produces excellent picture quality, amazing black levels and vibrant colors. The new Bravia Engine 2 also improves with 120Hz motion processing from Sony XBR4 line. My TV is located in a well lit room so the semi-matte display was a must. This TV delivers many useful settings to let you have the full freedom of making this TV truly yours. The PQ on 1080p material such as blu-ray movies or games is phenomenal. Broadcasted 1080i/720p HD sources look very good too - all depending on your provider and signal strength. SD quality is good but again it varies from channel to channel. For everyday use, this TV will get some immediate props for its' picture delivery from any viewer. If you like sports, you can expect unrivaled video processing of fast action. If you enjoy movies, this Sony offers a combination of settings to complement the true 24p cinematic picture.Since blu-ray movies are still expensive I have done a lot of testing by watching normal DVD's on my PS3 - and I have to tell you, those DVDs look better that HD broadcasts from Comcast. It feels almost unreal when you get to watch older movies with such clarity as if they were shot just a few years ago.If you need some starter settings to get more accurate reproduction of colors and detail, feel free to use my settings (post update v.202):Picture AdjustmentsPicture mode: CustomBack Light: MinPicture: 94Brightness: 52Color: 45Hue: 0Color Temperature: NeutralSharpness: 5Noise Reduction: MediumMPEG Noise Reduction: OffAdvanced SettingsBlack Corrector: OffAdvanced C.E.: OffGamma: OffClear White: OffLive Color: OffWhite BalanceR-Gain: -1G-Gain: -1B-Gain: -4R-Bias: -3G-Bias: 3B-Bias: -2Motion Enhancer: StandardCineMotion: Auto1Screen MenuWide Mode: FullAuto Wide: On4:3 Default: OffDisplay Area: Full PixelKeep in mind that sets and environments vary - so you don't have to use these settings verbatim. But it should give you a good start without a professional calibration. Just make sure not to leave the setting at the default given Vivid - since companies set most TVs at the brightest picture setting to compete against other sets in the bright store rooms. Otherwise you may be get a second hand tan from the picture =)Sound quality is excellent if you are not planning on using a more powerful sound system. The TV offers plenty of ports - so you can easily connect to many devices at once.I hope you love this TV as much as I do. Enjoy!

5Excellent Picture Quality (Unless you need a matte screen)
By M. Joachim
**May 1, 2009 Updates at the bottom**May 8, 2009 Updates at the bottom**May 14, 2009 -- I've updated my final calibrationI just received my LN46B650 today so I may update this review in time. Feel free to comment with questions and I'll try to respond to them in later updates.UNBOXINGThe box for the LN46B650 comes is not too much larger than the TV dimensions itself. Sometimes you'll see a 32" TV come in a box that could easily fit one much larger. I wouldn't exactly call it environmentally friendly, but the box easily fit through doorways and into the elevator of my apartment building. The box is fitted with Styrofoam at the corners to keep the TV in its place and inflated plastic bags filling in all the empty space. There is the typical screen protective plastic in place and I found that the TV came in excellent condition with no noticeable shipping damage. I did not use Amazon.com's shipping company, the handling of other shippers may vary.In the box is the stand (which comes with assembly instructions, though mine was already assembled), remote, 2 x AA batteries, a USB flash drive containing multimedia content and the TV instruction manual, a cover for the bottom of the TV in case you wish to mount it on a wall, a cleaning cover, screws for securing the stand to the TV, a power cord and a software CD for connecting the TV to a Windows Vista or XP computer via ethernet connections.Moving the box by myself was a bit difficult as it is still quite larger, once I got it out of the box though, the TV is very light for a 23 year old male and getting it on the stand was very easy. Once on the stand it snaps in place, you can (optionally) insert screws to keep it locked into the stand.Inserting the power cord and connecting my components to the TV was easy, but the cable management system for the TV is pretty much non existent -- cables pretty much dangle behind the TV.DESIGNThere is a lot of debate about whether the Touch of Color Red Design is a good thing or bad thing. Also, you'll see on last year's models that some people claim it's barely noticeable while some people claim it's a major game changer. My TV sits on a black TV stand in a spot in the room that sits in the shade -- I can barely see the red color. However, I feel that if you were to shine a lot of light on it, it would quickly become very noticeable. The bezel is not quite as thick as I thought it looked in the Amazon.com pictures (which are Samsung's official PR shots). There is a somewhat "fat" pointed chin which I don't think looks too terrible. If you look at the pictures you'll notice that the glass of the bezel extends about half an inch beyond the actual TV bezel, I kind of like it. The neck of the stand is a glass pillar and very nice looking. The stand itself is surprisingly deep compared to the TV stand, but, again, not a bad thing, it's just hard to see in the pictures. The built in TV controls sit on the bottom right hand corner of the bezel and are impossible to see from more than a foot away. It's a good thing for watching movies, but when I told somebody how to lower the volume on the TV, they couldn't find the buttons. I should also note that the buttons are touch sensitive there's no tactile way to find them or get feedback when pressing them. To the right of the buttons is a red light that turns on when the remote is pressed or the TV controls are pressed. It is otherwise always off unless the TV is in standby.I should point out that the TV is very glossy and during very dark scenes it is absolutely necessary to shade your windows. Even when the not in dark scenes, I found that the bezel reflects what the screen does not. When I closed my blinds, the TV looks absolutely superb. The bezel is no longer noticeable, dark scenes are fantastic. The remote is fairly straight forward. The design is just a tiny bit red like the TV bezel, buttons are nice and large and easy to memorize. The backlight button for the remote sits in the top right corner of it and when pressed illuminates the keys fairly well. There are a good number of connectivity options which are thoroughly explained on the Amazon.com specs or on Samsung's website.MENUS/SETTINGSTurning the TV sent me through a few welcome menus that I didn't particularly want. The first thing the TV did was begin scanning for channels -- but I have my cable box connected via HDMI so there was nothing to scan. Stopping the channel scan process was easy, though, and when I got out of the welcome menus and switched to the HDMI 1 source, the TV was easy to use.The menu layout is not atypical of other HDTVs you may have had the chance to use. Pushing the menu button brings up a series of menus indicated by pictograms for picture, audio, antenna setup, general TV setup, input setup, Application (media/internet functions) and Help. One thing I don't like, is that one feature that I like to be able to adjust on the fly, automotion plus (or refresh rate), is buried in menu -> picture -> picture options -> Auto Motion Plus. It's a pain to get to if you're just trying to adjust the setting for one channel. The menu gives you very simple descriptions for each setting that you're adjusting. Sometimes they're fairly obvious but I imagine for some people it clears up some ambiguity. For an example, when I highlight "color" the bottom of the menu reads, "Adjusts the color saturation of the picture using the bar on the screen. The closer to 100, the more saturated the color."I connected my TV directly to my computer network via ethernet cable. I had absolutely no issue in setting this up, the TV detected my network settings without any problems. One nice feature is that you can rename the sources on your TV to pre-designated alternates. For an example, I named HDMI1 "Cable Set Top Box" and HDMI2 "Game" and Component1 "DVD." It makes things easier for non-technical people. Picture settings are always retained based on the source, if you keep your HDMI source on "movie" mode and adjust the picture settings, every time you watch HDMI these settings will be restored.FEATURESI need to start out with my favorite feature on the TV: Customized Auto-Motion Plus. For those of you not familiar with the feature, it's what Samsung calls their 120hz capabilities. If you look at older LCD TV screens you might find that the picture tends to look blurry or judders in fast motion sequences. This technology, found in most middle and high-end LCD HDTVs in 2009, adds in extra frames to smooth out the motion. On my old XBR4, I could adjust the 120hz to either off, standard or high. On the LN46B650, I can adjust the blur from 0-10 and the judder from 0-10. It's a great feature, I'm still toying around to figure out what I like most for which content.Other unique features not in other brands is the Internet Content which includes a series of Yahoo Widgets. I must point out that these features are VERY slow regardless of your internet connection. It takes about 20-30 seconds to start them up initially after you turn your TV on and then take about 5 seconds to load from that point on. There is a significant lag when switching through the widgets content. The built in widgets include weather, news, flickr and finance. I've heard there are more widgets coming out soon -- possibly a Netflix widget? -- but as of April 30, 2009, there are none available. I'm praying that future firmware updates to the TV fix some of the slow speed. cnet.com provides a more thorough review of these features. The TV also comes with a fair amount of material stored in its internal memory and Samsung also includes it on a flashdrive which you can tweak on your personal computer. Pushing the content button on the remote closes whatever your watching and offers you a photo gallery which has pictures of art in slide show form (accompanied by adjustable music), a few recipes (why? Do people actually want to read recipes off of their TV screen? Is somebody putting a 46 inch LCD HDTV in their kitchen? I must say, though, the pictures of the food looks good), games (haven't tried these yet, I don't know if I ever will), children (a bunch of stories that look like flash cartoons with subtitles for kids to read along with), and wellness (a bunch of nature audio tracks and a few piano pieces). There is a total of 189 MB on the TV set aside for this content, you can download more of it off the internet or load it on via USB flashdrive or hard drive. It's really nothing too exciting, I have no intention to use it. But, I will point out, that it's far easier to use and faster than the Yahoo Internet Widgets. The TV hooks up to an external hard drive or flash drive. I connected my 4 GB flashdrive with a bunch of movies formatted for my iPod on it. The TV played them without any problems, but the stretched content did not look too good -- that's no surprise considering the iPod screen is less than 3 inches in size. Eventually I might try to move some saved HD content to my flash drive. The Help section of the menu is fantastic for those who are not familiar with HDTV settings. There is a "product guide" which pretty much explains how to use most of the TV's internet and content features, an explanation of how HD picture quality varies and works -- pretty much a powerpoint presentation -- and how you can use the TV's settings to get the most out of basic features and an explanation of how to save energy with TV settings.A self-diagnosis section brings up a sample HD picture or audio track to test to see if there is a problem with your TV. I imagine if you start seeing artifacts on your TV or quality problems it might be a good way to see if it's the TV or a component you have connected to it.This section also gives you contact info for samsung and is where you go to upgrade the TV firmware. Your TV is not usable when upgrading its firmware (or internal software). There has been a software upgrade issued since this TV reached the market. It takes less than 2 minutes to download and install over cable internet. You'll find that there is a myriad of picture adjustments you can make. As I mentioned, the 120Hz refresh rate and dejudder modes, also called automotion, is superb. There are five color temperature presets, I like the warm2 the best with the naked eye but you can make custom adjustments to the white balance and colorspace settings. There's a film mode to use 2:3 pull-down -- including on 1080i sources -- gamma adjustment, dynamic contrast control, black tone controls and a flesh tone setting which I haven't toyed with at all. You can adjust the aspect ratio to turn overscan on and off or to stretch the picture, etc. These are typical on most mid-high end HDTVs for 2009. There is also picture-in-picture via different sources available if you use features like that. There are also some energy saver features, which will adjust the brightness and other power consuming functions as you wish, but you'll probably see a decrease in picture quality the more these are turned on.PERFORMANCEI haven't had a chance to get out any calibration equipment and do anything serious to see how the TV looks at it's best. Out of the box, my first impression is that the picture quality is superb. I made some quick tweaks based on my personal preferences, but the colors seem to be very deep and accurate to my eye. Blacks are very very dark. I saw an early review of this TV that complained of clouding on the TV at the corners, I haven't seen any evidence of that no matter how dark I try to make the room. The screen appears to be very uniform from what I can tell with the naked eye. I might do some tests later, but I think some people have already done so on avsforum.com.I can't imagine the typical viewer being disappointed with any aspect of the picture. It's probably the best HD picture I've ever seen, though I haven't seen most of the 2009 models, I'm gauging this based on 2008 models. But in sum: great contrast, accurate colors, great customizable processing, deep blacks, uniform screen.I know there is some confusion about whether this is 10-bit or 8-bit unit, and I can't be positive (is there a good way to check?). I will say that there is no noticeable color banding at all that you might see in an 8-bit unit.I took a look at SD content from both a DVD (via component cables with no upscaling) and cable TV. Obviously, it's no where near as good as HD content. I will say that if you want a TV at this size, regardless of what TV you get, you should shell out the bucks for HD broadcasting or at least a blu-ray player. With that said, the SD quality is pretty good. The picture still looks detailed with good noise reduction and gets rid of most of the moire issues you might encounter on other sets. The sound quality is fine. Nothing great. The speakers of the TV fire downwards, so sometimes it sounds like that the voices of people on the TV are coming from the TV stand rather than the screen. I use my own speakers for most content and I suggest you consider doing the same if you're an audiophile. I won't go into sound quality much more than that because if you really expect a flat panel TV to have mind blowing sound, you need to reassess your expectations. If you're a gamer, and I mean a *serious* gamer, and need a very fast response rate, then you might want to consider a different TV. Even when game mode on this TV is turned on, you won't be 100% pleased. If you're a more typical gamer or don't play games, this should NOT affect your opinion of this TV. I've played my xbox 360 and it is more than apt for the typical gamer. I can't imagine casual gamers running into issues especially since gaming where timing is crucial -- like guitar hero or rock band -- allow you to calibrate the game to compensate for any delay. I've tried playing with my xbox 360 a little bit on it and I haven't had any problems. I also should point out that I watched the Netflix live streaming HD content via xbox 360 connected over HDMI and the content looks superb. As I mentioned before, the automotion features of this TV are superb. I love being able to adjust it to my preferences exactly. If you get this TV, you won't be disappointed with that feature.WRAP UP...The Picture quality of this TV is absolutely superb compared to all the 2008 LCDs I've seen and I imagine it is one of the best of the 2009 models. The features are expansive but you'll probably not end up using the internet or media content built in unless Samsung improves it. The screen is glossy so beware of bright rooms! Don't forget that -- I mentioned it early in the review. Otherwise, I can't imagine a better picture from an LCD.Feel free to ask questions in the comment and I'll try to update again soon.--UPDATE: May 1, 2009 -- CLARIFICATION ON GAMINGSo there was a question as to what the problem is for gamers. Let me be clear, the graphics quality with games is still excellent on my xbox 360. I have played with 120hz at full with the games and the processing is very good. I've also played with game mode turned on which exchanges some of the picture quality for better latency. Before I continue, let me note, once again, that this is NOT a problem for a large majority of gamers. So then what's the problem? When comparing this TV to a high end computer monitor there is a bit more input lag. For most people, this is completely undetectable, but it is there despite that this TV has far superior picture quality to pretty much every other LCD out there in the price range. For those of you not familiar with input lag, what it basically means is that when you use a video game, there is a slight delay (and I'm talking nano or miliseconds) between when you press a button on the controller/mouse/keyboard and when the change is registered on the screen. There is ABSOLUTELY no TV or computer screen out there that has 0 lag and there are other factors that play in here (such as the speed of the computer or game console).I did a few homemade tests and I estimate that the input latency is about 30-35 ms on average with game mode turned on or about 100-120 ms with game mode turned off. That score is actually pretty good compared to most LCD TV screens in this price range, but doesn't keep up with some of the high end Panasonics which are renowned for their low latency. For most people, anything less than 150-200 ms is usually perfectly fine. For others who play a lot of online games with their PC hooked up to their computers and need maximum efficiency, they might want to look at some Panasonic models. Please be careful, the response rate on the TV is rated at 4 ms. That is true. The pixels on this TV should average a 4 ms response rate which is excellent. What I'm talking about here is the lag it takes for the TV to register a change made in a game controller, through the game console or computer and through the TV video processing. The input lag has nothing to do with picture quality -- in fact, it's likely that less input lag also means less picture quality -- or audio quality. It will not be noticeable to most gamers.--UPDATE: May 1, 2009-- SD Picture QualityI've had a chance to watch a lot more SD quality broadcast on SD channels and have to say that after tweaking some settings, I'm really thoroughly impressed. This is some of the best SD rendering I've seen on an HD set. Colors pop very well and the AMP cleans up a lot of the blur well when you get it to just the right settings. I spent some time last night watching baseball games switching between HD and SD feeds and found that I could get the movement of the ball and swing of the bat to look pretty good on an SD feed and when in HD, the AMP handles it very well in 1080i. 720p actually looks a bit better when following balls hit into the field, but this is to be expected with progressive rather than interlaced video (there's a long explanation I could go into for this, but, for simplicity sake: 720p/1080p will show most motion better but is especially good when the entire picture is moving -- like camera pans -- 1080i is actually pretty good when the camera is steady and there is one object moving on the screen, but terrible when the camera pans or there are a lot of objects in motion).--UPDATE May 14, 2009 -- "FINAL" CALIBRATIONThis is my updated settings for what I consider my final calibration for the TV. Please note that your results will undoubtedly vary if you perform your own calibration or hire a professional to do it for you. Also note that I did this for a blu-ray source, often you'll find you want different settings for different sources. (NOTE: ALL TVs ARE DIFFERENT, EVEN WITH THIS MODEL, THESE MAY NOT BE YOUR IDEAL SETTINGS)If you're not picky or usually don't calibrate your TV, there's really no need to do much to the default settings. However, you might notice -- as I've noticed on my own TV -- that the blacks tend to be a tiny bit blue tinted on the default settings. My largest goal with these settings was to calibrate the TV accurately, but mainly get rid of that slight blue tint.Mode: MovieBacklight: 7Contrast: 100Brightness: 47Sharpness: 0Color: 47Tint (G/R): G49/R51Black tone: OffDynamic Contrast: OffGamma: 0Color Space: AutoWhite Balance:R-Off: 23G-Off: 24B-Off: 25R-Gain: 27G-Gain: 23B-Gain: 15Flesh Tone: 0Edge Enhancement: OffColor Tone: Warm2Size: Screen FitDigital NR: AutoHDMI Black Level: LowFilm Mode: OffBlue Only Mode: OffAMP 120Hz: Custom (Usually Blur Reduction: 10 / Judder Reduction: 4)--UPDATE May 8, 2009 -- COMMENT ON B650 vs B750A comment was posted in reply to this review that the B750 is a hands down choice over the B650. I just wanted to note that the B750 probably is a superior model to this one, but it comes at a higher price. There are three key changes to the B750 model: 240hz refresh rate, a matte screen, 150,000:1 contrast ratio. This all costs about an additional $250-$300 depending on when/where you buy. For some people, that isn't much of a difference when you're already spending nearly $2000 on a TV, and if that's the case, I see no reason not to buy the b750 model.I think it's also worth note, however, that cnet and other reviewers have argued that the benefits of 240hz refresh rates over 120hz is fairly insignificant and difficult to notice (see their reviews for the Sony XBR9 series and last year's Sony KDL-52XBR7). Their chief TV critic argues in separate article in 2008 that 240hz was not worth waiting for. But, I still think it's worth going into a store and taking a look at the differences between 240hz and 120hz before making a final decision. The matte screen is really a matter of preference and your room. I've already noted in this review that the B650 screen is very glossy and, in dark scenes, may reflect ambient light in the room. A matte screen should reduce these problems (though it's unlikely it will completely eliminate them). At the same time, a glossy screen can make colors "pop" more and sometimes make blacks look even deeper. As far as dynamic contrast ratio is concerned, there is a lot of debate in the A/V community about how these measurements are taken and how well they can be used to judge actual quality. The dynamic contrast ratio is a measure of the difference between the screen's whitest white and blackest black. That means they measure the white with the TV screen brightness at maximum and the black with the brightness at its darkest. These measurements can further be thwarted by the coating on the screen (a matte screen vs a glossy screen on top of the same panel will yield different results). Also, there are absolutely no standards in how these measurements are taken. That means that Samsung can use different methods to measure the contrast ratio on different models. Likewise, Sony likely uses a very different measurement system than Samsung. That's not to say the B750 contrast ratio is the same (or worse) than the B650, I'm just saying that it may not be discernible to your eye. You need to judge it yourself. As I've said, the best way to evaluate these differences are to see the models in person. If you do, make sure that you are watching an HD source (preferably a 1080p blu ray player) and that each TV is connected to the HD source in the same way and are showing the same movie. I bought this TV because I needed one before the b750 was scheduled to be released, otherwise I might have given the b750 much greater consideration.--UPDATE May 8, 2009 -- ONE WEEK IN....So I've had this TV for 8 days now and I have to say that I'm still very please with my choice. One item I have noticed that I didn't point out before is that the bezel does pick up some dust. I think this is because when it was in the box it developed some electrical charge. Hence, Styrofoam kind of stuck to the bezel a little bit. A few swipes around the bezel with a swifter seemed to get all the dust off. Since then, I have tried to avoid touching the bezel as it does pick up finger prints fairly easily. However, I, for one, rarely touch my TV screen and don't mind this as it gives the TV a nice glossy look (which makes it better to look at it when it's turned off).Another feature I wish Samsung had included would have been a height adjustable stand. I know that most TV's don't have this option, but I feel like the TV sits just an inch or two too low for my tastes. I measured the distance between the bottom of the base and the bottom of the actual screen and it's about 6.5 inches. If you want the screen any higher, you'll either have to get a higher TV stand or wall mount the screen.Another feature I've tried using is the automatic volume control, which I haven't been too impressed with. As I said earlier, I didn't expect much from the TV speakers and usually use my own sound system. But, if you're expecting to use the TV speakers, don't expect much from the auto-volume control. What the feature is supposed to do is keep the volume consistent between channels and sources. I actually found myself adjusting the volume *more* when this feature was turned on than when it was turned off. Also, a quick update on the Yahoo! Widgets: there are a bunch of new ones out! There are a few games available now and an app for Twitter and Yahoo video. I installed the latter two and can say that, though I don't really use twitter much, it's kind of neat being able to see all your friends' updates from your TV screen when you're too lazy to check a computer or cell phone. The Yahoo video content isn't exactly HD quality. In fact, it looks significantly worse than typical SD cable quality. I suppose that should be expected since the video content is meant to be played on the web. The video selection isn't as broad as you might see on YouTube, but it's fairly well categorized. I watched a few movie trailers on it before I decided I'd rather watch the HD quality ones on my 15 inch laptop. The speed of the widgets have improved a tiny bit. Once you update the TV firmware to version 1007, you might see a moderate improvement. However, going through the various screens to try to access an item like a Yahoo video can feel slow and tedious. I think Samsung and Yahoo have a nice idea here, but it's hardly a winner.Yet, my biggest priority when buying an HDTV was the picture quality and in that respect this TV is still a definite winner. Even from off-angle viewing, I've been very impressed by the color accuracy, black levels, screen uniformity and video processing. Add that to its superb connectivity, an attractive design and usability and that's why I continue to give this TV five stars, hands down. The cons of the TV have been mostly what I consider secondary features: internet functions being slow and the audio not being anything special.Feel free to keep asking questions in the comments section and I will try to reply when I can. Also, check out the reviews on the other size models of the B650 series as you should see very similar video quality. If you're into tech talk, it's also worth checking out some of the discussion on avsforum.com where they have a decent thread started on the B650 models. I'm not a participant, but some people have provided a good bit of insight.

5Unbelievable Picture Quality
By James M. Lane
I purchased this item last week 3-27-09 without the luxury of any reviews posted.. Just the picture I saw at B.B... I also purchased the Blue Ray player... The picture on this TV is Awesome... Better than I expected. Get the Blue Ray... I watched a movie on it the other night... Never knew what I was missing! This TV has all the bells & whistles as the 46A850 model with the upgrade to 100,000 : 1 contrast ratio. Sound is great. Picture is great... Easy to set up... Delivery from Amazon better than expected. Had people over to watch the final 4 NCAA last night... One gentleman kept walking up to the TV & asking his wife why his new SONY didn't look even close to this... Swivel stand is also Key to me... Red touch of color is not noticeable unless you look very close... Then you appreciate it! Hope this helps... Happy shopping

5Samsung makes great TVs... 5 stars for this model!
By Juniorverse1
There are lots of in-depth reviews of this TV on the web, so I won't go in to too much detail here. I will say that the picture quality is awesome on this model, and that I'm very happy with my purchase. The red touch of color isn't too obvious (I still wish Samsung would abandon the TOC though). The swivel base is nice, too.The "auto-motion plus" (AMP) feature is improved over the 2008 model by allowing you to fine-tune the settings more. AMP is the technology that fills in extra frames (120Hz) so video doesn't look so "jerky". Owners of the 2008 model sometimes had complaints that they could not adjust the AMP setting enough to their liking. The 2009 model allows greater customization."Game mode" helps eliminate the lag when playing games. Once I turned this mode on, there was no lag when playing "Rock Band" and other games on the PS3.I am using HDMI v1.3b cables that only cost a dollar from BargainCell. Images are awesome. Don't spend more than that for HDMI cables!!! Research the web or look at the reviews for HDMI cables on Amazon to find out why. You will not notice any difference in image quality no matter how expensive an HDMI cable is.The sound on the TV is a little flat, and doesn't have much bass. But I am hooking my PS3 and DirecTV sound to an Onkyo receiver and Energy speakers (which sound great!), so it didn't matter to me.Keep in mind that the 650 models (like this one) have a gloss panel. This causes reflections to show from windows and lights. If you're looking for the semi-matte screens that help cut down on this, you'll want to check out the 630 models. My TV was shipped via Pilot freight services. They made a courtesy call to me stating that because of where I live, that one of their partners (a moving company) would be making the delivery. As a result, it tacked on a few extra days for the product to arrive, but it arrived in perfect condition and the moving company set up the TV and made sure it worked and that I was happy with it before they left.All-in-all, I'm definitely pleased with this TV.

LED
The LED Display renders the highest available contrast with stunning brilliance, colors and low power consumption. The revolutionary new LED lights are positioned at both sides in the backlight for the LCD display. They generate brilliant light in bright image scenes, and are dimmed to lowest levels in dark scenes. The result is a stunning picture with extreme contrast, sharpness, vibrant color and with less energy compared to a normal LCD TV of the same screen size.

Full HD LCD display 1920x1080p
The Full HD screen has the widescreen resolution of 1920 x 1080p. This is the highest resolution of HD sources for the best possible picture quality. It is fully future proof as it supports 1080p signals from all sources, including the most recent like Blu-ray and advanced HD game consoles. The signal processing is extensively upgraded to support this much higher signal quality and resolution. It produces brilliant flicker-free progressive scan pictures with superb brightness and colors.

4Surprisingly Great.
By matchless
I bought this TV recently from a national chain store on a semi-whim (I'd been wanting a new TV for a little while but wasn't sure if this was the time to buy). Surprised by how few reviews there were, I decided to write this one. While shopping with my wife, we wandered over to the TV wall just to check out what was available, and I proceeded to wander up and down the wall looking at the TVs. Slowly I narrowed my pool by size (37"-42"), technology (LED LCD), resolution (1080p), and refresh rate (120Hz-240Hz). After all that, I shocking found myself staring at a Philips set (at a great price). The picture was clear, colors were vibrant (probably over-saturated for the sales floor but that's par for the course, I believe), and the bezel was clean and understated. Honestly, I couldn't believe it. I asked my wife which one she liked, and she picked the same one! We decided to purchase this TV and have loved it ever since I set it up.The performance:price ratio on this TV is unbelievable. I'm the type of person who lives by the "get what you pay for" mantra, and, honestly, the price was the only thing that scared me about this TV. Is the deal too good to be true? Since we bought the TV without researching it first (another past time of mine), I hopped on teh almighty interwebz as soon as we got home. I could only find a couple negative comments, and I will elaborate on them here:- The remote and TV IR sensor are a little picky. An angry customer commented that you have to point the remote directly at the TV for it to work. This is not entirely true. The sensor is placed in the bottom middle of the bezel while most TVs have them out to the sides these days. He probably had something sitting directly in front of the TV blocking the sensor. I had to move our center channel speaker to the side a little so the remote has a clear path to the senor. Seems to be an average remote experience to me - just something to be aware of.- Video games lag with the 120Hz processing turned on. I only tried it with the setting at Minimum on my Xbox 360, but the video does noticeably lag (not a lot, but you can see it) at that setting. Solution: Turn it off. It's as simple as that.- For the short time I had the 120Hz processing turned on, I couldn't decide whether I liked it or not. It seems really cool, but my wife did not like it at all. There seems to be a little judder (like they skip, I guess that's the term) in fast moving objects with the setting on Minimum. We just turned it off and have left it that way. Honestly, after reading about the technology more, I'm not sure the programming for this feature is there yet. I'm a little bit of a purist so I'll just leave the video the way it is recorded and broadcast.- I've read some complaints about the sound. Well, what do you expect when the speakers are mounted on the back of the TV? I haven't auditioned the built-in sound setup since I have everything running through my home theater system, but I can't imagine the sound would be very good reverberating off of the wall behind it or the entertainment center surrounding it.Overall, I'm very pleased with this TV (especially since I was able to get it for roughly half of the competitors' price!). Philips may be able to offer this TV at a lower price because they don't do as much sponsoring, advertising, or PR as other brands like Samsung, LG, and Panasonic. This TV sat next to Samsung on the wall, and it outshined the Samsung. The menu experience is very sleek and quick. Not sure if this menu is proprietary to Philips or not, but it's certainly not one of the generic specials I see on all the store/off-brand TVs. The TV menu even has an option to add devices to it by linking a description+icon (video game, DVD, Cable/Satellite, etc.) to an input. My wife LOVES this feature even though we won't use it (AV receiver does all the switching). I even used a USB key to update the firmware on the TV. It was easy and executed flawlessly. Blu ray looks great on this TV, as well. The colors and details really pop. I'm hoping this TV will last my wife and I quite a while :)UPDATE (12/01/11): I've been meaning to update this review with one thing that I've noticed since we bought the TV. We still love it and the picture is great, but for some of the pickier people out there the TV does have backlight glow at the left and right edges (especially the top right corner). You can only really see it when a completely black screen is displayed (or I suppose a very dark scene, but I've never noticed it otherwise). From what I understand about edge lit LED technology this seems normal, but other brands may do a better job of minimizing it.

5Perfect TV
By Patrick Louise
Simple review for TV Programing, Video Games and BlurayOk, 1st things 1st. Update the TV!Meaning just get any USB device and drag over the firmware update from the Phillps website and this TV works like a dream. Its very simple so don't let that scare you into not buying this tv. All new tv's have firmware updates now. Its very common.I can't speak for the tv before the update because I did it right away.Anyway, on to the review! ^_^1st TV ProgramingI have Direct TV I gotta say movies and shows simply look amazing. The picture is crisp and pops out at you. The newer the tv show your watching the better it will look. HD programing is a must of course. No Lag or jiddering or whatever other reviews say.Now for Video games. I have a Ps3 and have played it a fair amount already and There's no lag at 1080p 120hz at all. And thats set at maximum I don't know how some reviews say there's a lag maybe thats before the update. But video games look impressive, and again the picture just seems to pop out at you. I play alot of sports and fighting games which of course has alot of action and fast movements and I'm seeing things I never saw before on my old CRT HDTV. There's just so much detail now that the creator's of the games put into it that I can now see, when before you simply didn't pick it up just looking at it.Now for maybe what alot of you are buying a 120hz tv for.. The Bluray Movies.I gotta say the picture looks.breathtaking My Dad who's a old timer when it comes to electronics who's been saying a tv is a tv...even said... Wow this was worth it when he saw the Dark Knight IMAX parts on Bluray. It simply looks like there right in the room with you. Like your right in back of them or on the side of them.. or your in the room when there's a explosion. Also the Speakers Some reviews say there low.. Honestly I don't even have it close to middle on the volume setting and the sound is like everywhere. You get the surround sound and HD sound all in one.Ive been looking at getting a new HDTV for 6 months, looking at samsungs, Sony's,LG and so on, and this TV simply was the best deal for 120hz.I bought this tv when it was on sale for $599 and Paid $547 with tax included . At the Target store(15 percent off) (Target Card) and 10 percent off purchase coupon. So once they put this tv on sale again or if the current price (629 in store) jump on it. Its a perfect tv for those making the jump to LCD-LED technology. The 120hz makes a huge difference so stick with brand that you already know, they haven't been around a long time for nothin ^_^.Sorry if this is a nothing but positive review for the tv but I'm just calling it like I see it. This tv is the best led your going to get on the market at this size with 120hz. Trust me I looked all over the place :)

3Good TV, HD picture not the best
By FwaysNGreens
We wanted a second TV for a newly finished basement, and we didn't want to pay too much so the $600-ish price was appealing. The TV is easy to set up. I did load the firmware update on a thumbdrive and updated the TV at start-up. That was easy. Some other reviews have commented on the sound. We're OK with it. Others have said that the remote is a bit sensitive, and we generally concur with that, but it's no big deal. I find the remote overall and the TV in general quite easy to use and configure. Those things are nice, but TVs like this are really about the picture. I read the glowing reviews of this TV's picture and was excited to see it. Overall, I have to admit that I'm a bit disappointed. Our other TV is a Samsung 40" C630 and I think it definitely has a superior picture to the Philips. I have tried all the different picture mode settings and tinkered with the individual items (brightness, contrast, color) but I just can't get it close to the Samsung. In particular, thin-lined objects such as golf clubs or the edges of a white shirt against a colored background show clear jaggies and aliasing. I also can't get grass to look just the right shade of green. In general, the Samsung's picture just looks crisper and better defined. The Philips picture is by no means bad, but I can notice the difference.

2TERRIBLE packing by Samsung!
By Ari
This display itself appears very nice and would be really wonderful if Samsung packaged it properly. The first display we received had a cracked screen at the top center. Obviously this is damage that occured during shipping. BUT it is Samsung's fault for not packaging this display well. There are styrofoam blocks at each corner of the display in the box. That protects the corners. There is NO protection in the center and being a 46" display there is a lot of center to cover. You can easily press the middle of the box and touch the screen. If you push down on top of the box in the middle it will fold and contact the top of the display. Our second display appeared not to be damaged. It actually is. Upon powering up there is a dark defect in to spots at the top of the screen. One center and one slightly off center left. This defect is not easily seen straight on but extremely obvious when viewed at even a slight angle. There are also dark circles radiating from it throughout the screen. This is likely from shipping damage due to poor packaging.I would not purchase this TV online. Only buy it if you can get a good deal locally. Samsung needs to take better care of their goods, we obviously can't rely on the logistics company to do that. A simple styrofoam block at the top center of the display would likely have saved the two displays from shipping damage. But perhaps Samsung doesn't care. Once it's out of their hands, it's sold. If it's damaged then it's on the shipping company's insurance. Well, Samsung needs to be held liable and their reputation damaged from poor practice.I give them 2 stars because the display would probably be great if it could be had undamaged. But -3 stars for packing. It's that serious.

5Awesome TV but you'll want a sound system
By M. Frank
After researching Bravia TVs, I decided to go ahead with this one since it is one of the newer releases for 2011. I'm glad I waited, as this TV is clearer and more vivid than those of some older models or rival brands. Picture quality is clear with no fog or motion blur. PS3 games and Netflix look absolutely amazing. The only thing this TV needs now is a sound system to broaden the audio experience. If you're having sound issues, try messing around with the 'steady sound' and 'clear voice' options to even things out and make them less muddy. In stores you may see this TV's picture slightly less bright than others, but that is because of the built in light sensor that's located on the front of the frame. The picture automatically adjusts to best fit it's surroundings, and that's what's truly great. No fussing with brightness settings all the time.Overall, worth every penny. Stick with Sony and you won't be disappointed.

5Sony - Simply The Best
By Robert N Victa
The SONY KBL32BX450 with high definition 1080p is an entry level model with outstanding picture quality. This is a highly recommended HDTV for you.I had researched purchasing HDTV for the bedroom and the SONY is better than the rest (LG, SAMSUNG, PANASONIC and budget models). You pay more for the SONY but you getting a SONY. It is worth the difference. Do not compromise. This is a new 2011 model with basic features. There is no Wifi, this is 60Hz and is not an LED TV (however picture quality compares to LED sets). There are only two HDMI ports that may not be enough for some people. The only "complaint" is the sound quality. You will need to adjust the bass/treble and use the equalizer in Custom Mode. It is the same issue that flat screen sets just don't have great speakers. Regardless, this is an excellent television. There are enough settings with options to calibrate and customize the picture to your liking. It is best to disable the ambient light sensor that restricts the brightness and vivid contrast of the picture. Once calibrated, the picture is awesome. The fleshtones are realistic. There is abundant contrast with the blacks are coal black and whites are bright white. The colors are vivid and vibrant. The set will require picture adjustment and calibration out of the box. Motion blur is almost non-existant for a 60Hz set.The features and specs of this set are well documented. You have a USB port to view pictures and videos. If you are very budget conscience then consider the SONY 720p model KDL32BX320. This is also a great set but you don't pay for the Full HD. If you won't do gaming or watch BluRay then this may be for you. If you are looking to install in your living room then look for a SONY with a larger screen.I purchased this from a store with special grand opening sale but wanted to post review for Amazon folks. I would typically buy from Amazon.

4Perhaps the best value for the money out there.
By Deacon Frost
For those seeing the 1 or 2 star reviews, do yourself a favor and ignore them as they address aspects of the TV that are common knowledge to anyone who has done their research and are flaws present when shopping for ANY TV of this type. This is doubly true for the speakers - if you're expecting a massive wall of sound from any TV's internal speakers then it's a wonder you were intelligent enough to type a review on Amazon. Now, on the the important stuff. From a presentation standpoint, the TV is understated and classy. The glossy black bezel is attractive in it's simplicity, with the only deviation of color being a thin strip (about 1cm) of dark gray at the bottom of the TV. The gray strip house the sensor bar and small power leds. This is a 'budget' TV, and with that classification aside, the image quality on this TV is amazing. After some careful calibration, the picture shows deep, dark blacks, vivid color, sharply honed detail, and extremely smooth motion.Despite having a lower refresh rate than higher-end sets, this TV gives fluid, artifact free motion - even in action scenes with lots of quick camera cuts. The image quality is on-par with much more expensive sets, and given the actual price of this set, the image quality alone makes this TV worth a buy. However, there are caveats and they present themselves most notably in the inputs - or should I say, the lack thereof. It's with the inputs where you realize where Sony skimped in order to deliver a set of this size at this price. You get 2 HDMI, 1 Component, 1 Composite, 1 Coaxial, Analog and Digital Audio inputs, a VGA, and a USB input. This input scenario posed problems for me, as I have far more devices than this TV can accommodate on it's own.I have 3 HDMI devices), 1 Component device, 2 Composite devices, and 2 coaxial devices. In order to hook everything up to this TV I had to purchase an HDMI switch, along with a composite splitter and a coaxial hub.Needless to say not everyone will have a plethora of video game consoles hooked up to their TV, but I do, and the lack of inputs made for one heck of wire mess behind my TV.However, my last TV had 3 HDMIs, 3 Components, 3 Composites, 2 S-Video, 2 Coaxial, Digital and Analog audio, and a DVI. So I could just be experiencing 'Input Shock' after having so many options. As an aside, the VGA input works well, and integrating the computer with this TV is quick and painless. The resolution is fine so long as you have a video card capable of supporting such a large picture, but that isn't really an issue unless you're using this TV to play PC games. In conclusion the 46bx420 is an excellent TV on it's own, and it's even better when you consider the image quality you're getting for the price. The lack of inputs is disappointing if unsurprising, but for the average user the available inputs will likely be more than enough. Again, the sound from the internal speakers is lacking but as I said, that's a no-brainer - you really should have a proper surround sound system hooked up to this TV if you're watching movies or HD media on it anyway. This TV is a great buy, and easily outperforms the competing models in it's class, and it does it for less to boot. Pick it up if you're in the market for a TV in this size - you won't be disappointed.
