5TC=L32G1 2 thumbs up!
By D. Posey
Very nice picture and sound. I picked it up for $634. delivered. Sub vendor Beach Camera. Steal of a deal for the new model. The G1 has a very good screen format options. I can't tell you how surprised I was at the sound. Many LCD's have poor sound do to the hidden speakers. The price we pay for style. The speakers are placed at the bottom. Down firing. All in all love my purchase.Con:1.The warranty. If they can't fix it over the phone you will have to carry it in or pay for the upgraded warranty. Larger models are in home service.2. No Ipod dock like the x1 models. It would be nice to have the option to buy as a add on. (Can't find any options for it)3. (Maybe) No 1080p support for PC. 720p looks better when viewing standard cable. So this depends on your primary use. @ 32" you can not discern the difference in viewing movies/TV. Only when using the computer. The text etc will look much cleaner. If you primarily use PC get the S1 model or spend the money for 37"G1.* Very nice quality, Solid feel, nice style *

5A great, inexpensive LCD TV without bells and whistles.
By Samuel Trenton
This is an excellent deal no matter which way you look at it. For $465 with free shipping (Prime member) and no tax, this one is a no-brainer.The picture is sharp - maybe not as sharp as its more expensive big brothers, but sharp enough for any casual TV viewer. Be sure to find the right picture format for your purposes (I like "justified", although others with weaker eyesight might like "zoom", while others may prefer the wide angle if they are avid HD video fans. There are enough picture features to adjust it to your liking, including extensive color settings and more. And to top it all, it's just plain easy to adjust using the included remote. One caveat: you may find the maximum volume setting a bit low when you first plug it in, and you might even turn the volume up to 100% or so in bigger rooms. But there is an easy fix: go into menu, then audio settings, and adjust the base audio level to max, then when you go back to your remote you'll find you have enough volume/headroom to enjoy any movie with plenty to spare. I don't need a 2.1 or 3.1 speaker system; it's sound is good as it is. I'm an audiophile, but I just don't see the need to spend money on an extra speaker system to match up with this inexpensive, but good, TV.Assembly? What assembly. The only thing you need to assemble is the stand, which consists of four screws. Easy peasy. This baby is plug and play - I had it up and running in under 15 minutes. It features a very intuitive settings format. All in all, a great product at a ridiculous price. Highly recommended. If you just want a no frills LCD TV with HD, and you don't plan to build a screening room or theater, this is the ticket. Get them while they last!

5Agreed. Two thumbs up!
By One Guy
I had been reviewing tv's for months before purchasing this G1. At 549 shipped from Amazon, I jumped on it. I found many stores discontinuing this model and became nervous, but all doubt was removed when item arrived with in home set up. I feel this tv will make a great addition to my bedroom, but currently it is my main living room tv.The picture is great. Anything at or above 720 looks amazing, some things at 480 make me question if it is in fact higher. Contrast is very good, and I love that it has a 120Hz refresh rate. Any glare is what I would consider to be minimal (although better placement on my part would eliminate this all together).Speakers are fantastic (I do have an onkyo receiver and speakers that I no longer feel I have to use for EVERYTHING). Set up is straightforward and remote layout is pretty good. Also, although I have yet to have an opportunity to use the Vera Link, I think that will be a great feature.Although a little more pricey than others it this size I feel it is a great value for what it offers and was glad I made the decision to purchase this tv from Amazon rather than whatever was on sale at my local Walmart. If you are looking for a 32inch tv, I believe you will satisfied with this as well.

5Currently the best 32" LCD for the price
By Arm&Hammer
Pros:- Best part of this TV is the Over the Air (OTA) tuner to get free public broadcast TV stations. Used a paper-clip as the antenna and received over a dozen HD/digital stations with perfect reception in the Washington DC metro area without any dropouts. No cable for me, literally.- Excellent picture, especially after playing around with all color options. The color can be adjusted to anyone's preference, because it has separate color adjustments for red, blue, green, yellow, magenta and cyan, as well as, preset adjustments. 1080p display is great for graphics or if using it with a computer. I starred at a lot of 720p displays before ordering this one, for me, I can see better detail (especially background and graphics) with a 1080p display from 8' away.- Comes on in 2.5 seconds. Try timing how long it takes to turn on any other manufacturer or previous model year TVs. Channel changes almost instantaneous about 1-2 sec, great for channel surfing. With OTA HD/digital stations this was a challenge for a lot of TVs.- Sound quality is very good and loud if you need it. At 20% it's loud enough to fill a medium sized room.- Low price. If you search enough you can get it at a lower price than last year's 720p models on clearance or refurbished.Cons:- Specs on this TV are not always accurate, different specs. on Toshiba's website vs. owner's manual vs. on the box. For example when I weight my 32RV530U it is 26.5 pounds, which is better for me. I wonder what other specs are off.- Some fuzzyness with fast moving objects, maybe due to refresh rate (5-8ms)or 10 bit panel or 12 or 14 bit processor (listed in owner's manual.Whatever the true specs are this TV looks great either way for TV watching or used as a computer monitor.

4Very Pleased
By N. Kamal
I received the TV 3 days after ordering it from Beach Audio via Amazon. Arrived safe and sound, no dead pixels either. So far I am very pleased with the set. It took about 10 minutes to set up. As others have discussed it is a great looking set. I was hesitant to buy a TV with that black piano finish, because originally I thought it to be a little tacky, trendy and cheap looking. But Toshiba made it look good! It's nowhere near as shiny as I thought it would be.Now for the picture. It arrived with the picture set to "Sports" mode. This was too bright and over saturated for my taste. I switched to "Standard" mode and the colors are richer without being overly warm or loosing crispness. The set has a picture mode for "Movies" as well, and it really does give the display a movie-theateresque character. As for SD display, Id rate it at about 8/10. A relative's 42" 1080p Sony Bravia XBR displays these channels the same as or a little worse than the 32rv530u. Comcast HD movies on demand look incredible through the Motorola SCH3200 box with HDMI output. Overall, for this price, this is likely the best 32"-- and besides the Sharp, the only-- 1080p LCD on the market.I am anxiously awaiting my PS3 so I can bask in the glory of a 1080p signal.

5Excellent Picture
By Tweaker
I've owned this set for several weeks now and am very impressed by the overall picture quality. The images are sharp, the blacks are reasonably deep, the colors are well balanced, and there is no backlight bleeding. I recommend turning down the backlight to 50 or less (mine is at 40) to get the best picture. Sound quality is only mediocre but I use mine with a 5.1 surround system, so that is not a problem for me. I don't know how this set compares to Sony or Samsung because those sets will not fit in my cabinet, the Toshiba does - which is another plus for people with tight spaces. BTW, the dimensions given on the US web site for the set are incorrect - they slightly overstate the actual dimensions. Go to the Canadian website for the correct dimensions if this is critical to you. Also the owner's manual is available through the Canadian website.

5Amazing.
By hank
I did not think it would be as good as the movies we have went to see. It is better! My kids say it is better! My Grandkids say it is better! We have Directv so I can watch 3D any time of the day. There still is limited shows but I am hoping for more. I love this TV!! I bought it for the 1080p not the 3D. but the wife said get a HDTV with 3D it is the way to go. She reads Consumer Reports, so I checked all the reviews and this Panasonic was listed as top line! Something about Panasonic is the only 3D to use 1080p in both eyes? Directv also listed it as one of their advised 3D TV's to buy, it was the first on their list BTW! Now I am no techie, but my daughter told me after watching for 5 minutes that this 3D was so good I could sell seats in my house! LOL. I wish 2 sets of glasses came with the TV but hey if you can afford this set you can afford the glasses. I just hated giving them back and forth to the whole family all night. I bought my Pana here on AMAZON @ World Wide Stereo and they used CEVA to ship the TV the truckers came with the TV early (3days) and helped me get the box off too. Very nice delivery men BTW! The whole process from order to turning this TV was 5 Star for me. This is my second Panasonic HDTV the first is a 720p in our bedroom that I have had over a year and we are very happy with. I have watched how many ESPN 3D football games? How many 3D shows? People came in on Halloween and sat down and would not leave! they just wanted to see 3D!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! Its better and better...

5Haven't found a complaint yet...
By J. Szymczak
Originally I was looking at a LG 3d LED. I had two disasterous experiences at two different Best Buys and ended up going to the local TV/video store (Video Only, if you happen to be in an area with one). They really know their stuff, and pointed me to this beauty. It's not as sleek as some of the 0.5" thick LED's (it's about 3.5-4"). It doesn't have built in WIFI. The internet applications leave something to be desired. But the picture quality can't be beat. Hands down, the best picture I have seen from a TV. I was skeptical of a plasma, but the quality, reliability and durability of the plasmas today outweigh the benefits of a LED tv. You can look up and compare the numbers, but the fact is that this tv "just looks better".One thing to note is that LED's generally offer a "crisper" image (at least according to the guy at the store), but their color quality diminishes greatly when viewing from an angle. But let me say I haven't had any complaints about the quality. It is sharp and looks great. The 3D capabilities of this look stellar. I played through Call of Duty: Black Ops single player campaign in 3D and was completely blown away by the quality and the effects this TV is capable of displaying.Overall, this is a great TV. My only real complaint is that it's a bit pricey. I was able to score this set with a Panasonic 3D starter kit (2 3d movies and 2 extra pairs of glasses), a 3d blu ray player and another set of glasses (in addition to the set included with the tv and the two in the starter kit) included in the price. Awesome deal.

2Picture quality is outstanding, but image retention issues make it not worth it
By Diogenes DogSnack
Everytime I turn this tv on, it brings a smile to my face. The picture quality is the best I have ever seen, especially the THX mode. Blu-ray discs become a must. The black levels are so good you may find yourself picking out blu-ray movies that feature dark scenes just to see how well they look. Dark games like Fallout 3 or Arkham Asylum look simply incredible. 3d Works well, I have tested it with the Killzone 3 demo on PS3 and you feel totally immersed. I did not see any "ghosting" affects. One complaint is I wish it had a wireless capability. It requires a wired connection or you need to purchase a separate adapter for wireless. Viera Cast stuff is good. Netflix is included as well as YouTube, Pandora, Amazon etc. Youtube for some reason has a pared down interface and I wasn't able to select HD resolution like I can from PC. But they could fix this in a firmware update and it can be done from PC so no big deal. I don't think there is any better TV you can buy at any price point, unless you are just getting a bigger size. The new vt30's will probably best this tv but they will cost a lot more. Recommend!Edit: 3/17/2011. Unfortunately, the TV has burn in issues. We were very diligent during the first 100 hours, but then we started playing games thinking it was safe. My wife had been playing Fallout 3 the last month or so and the HUD from the game is now burned into the screen. Unbelievable that Panasonic isn't warning customers about this possibility. Instead, the warnings are focused on only the first 100 hours. We play in THX mode, contrast and brightness set to 70. I was led to believe that burn in was no longer a problem on these sets after the first 100 hours. Unfortunately, this is NOT the case. Lowered my rating of the set to 3 stars. It is great picture, but susceptible to burn in. Now our tv is apparently permanently compromised.Update: 4/8/2011 The burn in is still there after running the tv's own anti-image retention tool and also running third party tools designed to remove it for many days on end. This TV is severely flawed and I don't recommend that anyone buy it with these kind of problems unless you plan to baby sit your tv all the time. If you search online for vt25 burn in you will find many cases of what I'm talking about. Don't watch anything that has a static image on the screen with this tv, and heaven forbid you forget and leave something on the screen for a couple hours -the tv could be permanently damaged if you do.Update: 4/16/2011 We played Bioshock for about 2 hours, then watched a movie. Afterwards it took a full night to remove the image retention from Bioshock HUD using slides and the tv's own anti image retention scrolling bar feature. The next day we played 2 hours again followed by other content. It has taken over 2 days to remove the retained image. Unless we have a lemon, this tv is completely unfit for gamers. If I could I would return it and I will probably never again buy a Panasonic or any other plasma tv unless they stop excluding IR issues from their warranties.Update: 06/20/2011 The burn in is still there and does not appear to be diminishing. We no longer play any games on the tv, only on my 23" work monitor. Also, standard definition content creates black sections on the sides. We run the scrolling bar and full color slides every time after watching standard definition content.

5A MUST BUY! Best TV available! Beautiful picture, no CLOUDING & great SOUND!
By Jack Bourne
I had recently purchased the Samsung LN-S4095D 40" 1080p LCD HDTVfrom Amazon, but it had a good amount of back light issues exactly like the Sony XBR's. I have read that it sometimes goes away by itself after a few weeks of use. But after 3 weeks it was still cloudy. I shipped it back and received a full refund. I'd heard that the LNT-series of Samsung's were coming out in March and that the problem had been resolved. After many in store demo's at BB and CC by asking the sales associates to hook up a blu-ray 1080p DVD (luckily they all had "Happy Feet" so they were exactly the same movie compared) I product tested the Samsung LNT4061F 40" 1080p LCD HDTV, the LNT4065F, and LNT4066. Along with two Sony's that caught my eye Sony KDL-40XBR2 40" Bravia XBR 1080p LCD HDTV,Sony KDL-40V2500 40" Bravia V-Series 1080p LCD HDTV. All were within my price range. But the Sony V2500 wasn't even close to standing with the Samsung LNT's. The XBR2 is great, but watch out for clouding which Sony will NOT admit is a problem, I recommend googling the XBR clouding problem before buying from SONY. If you're looking for the best all around TV (price, sound, picture quality, no CLOUDING, hook-up versatility(3x HDMI)) then the LNT4065 is the perfect TV for you. It has hidden side speakers that sound very rich and full. If you already have a sound system and prefer a matte finish to your TV get the LNT4061. The LNT4061 has poor sound from its hidden bottom speaker, but the matte screen is excellent to prevent glare. The LNT4065 has a semi-gloss screen, which makes the 15K:1 contrast ratio look amazing! I haven't had any glare problems at all. The only difference between the LNT4065 and LNT4066 is that the 66 has a different chasis. The internals are all the same. I've confirmed this through extensive research. The 65 has buttons on the top of it, while the 66 has pressure sensitive buttons on the bottom left corner. Not worth the extra money to me. PS2 and Gamecube games look fantastic on it. I don't have a Wii or PS3 to try on it yet, but I'll submit another review when I do. This TV is so versatile. So many features for sound, gaming, and picture quality. You can adjust everything you want. LCD is the only way to go, with this TV you get the CR of plasma without the ghosting! This is the TV to buy!Big plus to Amazon. I bought the TV for $2199 and saw that a week later it was 1905 and they refunded the difference.JUNE 5, 2007 UPDATE: I purchased a PS3 and a Wii and both look fantastic! The 1080p HDMI 1.3 look crystal clear, I've played Fear(720p), and Ninja Gaiden (1080p). The 1080p upconverting that the PS3 does with the recent firmware upgrade makes all of my regular DVD's look great, and my PS2 games look just as good. The Wii only uses RCA but it looks great with 480i. Zelda and the Wii Sports look fantastic. Having three HDMI ports really comes in handy with a PS3 and DirecTV (HDMI 1080i).

5Excellent TV!
By Jason Freeland
After reviewing the traffic at avsforums on this TV and its competitors, I decided to go with the LNT4065. There were several comments about HDMI issues and still some clouding issues were reported with this model, but I took the plunge anyway. I am very glad I did - the TV is incredible. It is a pleasure to watch and brings life to all the material I have viewed on it.Some basics about my configuration - I have three sources that I view on this TV - a PC, an XBox connected via Monster component cables, and digital cable from comcast.Cable:The SD material is surprisingly watchable, and HD content looks fantastic of course. For the first time in recorded history, my wife actually chose to sit on the couch and watch a baseball game for an hour because it was such a spectacular visual experience.PC:Best computer monitor experience I have ever had bar none. Black levels not quite as good as the 19" trinitrons I recently donated to goodwill. But in every other way, unbelievable. Digital photographs are miraculous.Xbox:This was the real surprise. Games suck - not the tvs fault, its the lack of HD game content for the first gen xbox. But I primarily use the xbox as an A/V device with Xbox Media Center and when paired with this TV the experience is incredible. I purchased an Oppo 981 along with the TV and in side-by-side comparisons with the same SD-DVDs XBMC schooled the Oppo in upsampling quality. I was actually very surprised that the Oppo so clearly came in second place to XBMC - so much that I spent about a week scouring the internet for setting recommendations on the Oppo to make sure I wasn't missing something. All I can say is that it will be a LONG time before I go out and upgrade all my DVD stuff to HD.*Update: Well not that long it turns out. Planet Earth knocked me over in 1080p and single-handedly made the case for an HD player. So after wrestling with the format war for a couple weeks I went ahead and bought a Blu-Ray drive from amazon, and found an open box HD-DVD drive at circuit city for $90.00. Been really enjoying having both formats. Been spending a lot of time watching very nice looking movies. Some technical thoughts on the TV:- My TV displays some extremely minor clouding - we're talking nit-pick bigtime here (thanks for the OCD avsforums...hehe). I only notice it when these three stars align: 1) the room is completely dark, 2)the TV is displaying the completely black desktop of the PC display, 3) the backlight is set above 6 of 10. I find the whites disturbingly bright above this backlight level though. I am currently enjoying the picture quality and the backlight is set to 3 on all inputs (typically watch in a shadowed to dark room).- The glossy screen may be distracting to some, but I find it very enjoyable. Even when you are watching the TV and are not consciously seeing any "reflections" I think the gloss causes the eye to perceive the TV as a glass plane instead of the typical screen door film texture of LCD - which strengthens this TVs visual likeness to CRT displays. The same thing helps plasmas I think. Also, apparently this glossy coating has a component that also helps the contrast ratio or black levels or something - remember reading that somewhere.- Black levels are outstanding but shadow detail is still lost a bit. I am going to be honest - its very minimal but that is the only thing that remains a negative factor to the viewing experience. On DVD content the image transitions from the darks to black a bit too abruptly - instead of a smooth transition through the dark-color gradients. Put another way - imagine 10 is white and 0 is black with shades of gray in between. It appears as though the TV displays everything .5 and less as black. Maybe .25... not a distraction, but a very slight detraction - maybe results in my happiness being 4.85 stars out of 5. I will say that of all the LCD tvs I have viewed this TV handles blacks & shadows the best. It is definitely worth living with this minor flaw of LCD technology to get the perfection this TV exhibits in every other way.- This unit is the closest thing to Plasma as I believe you can get in an LCD tv at this time - without the unacceptable baggage that comes with plasma. I owned a 42" plasma that I returned because I wasn't interested in spending 3k on a TV and then having to live with the following crap: can't lay the tv flat (ie lay the box on its side so it fits in back of your SUV); TV weighs 90 pounds even though its a "flat panel"; static images that are displayed on the screen for a couple hours become "ghosted" faintly in the plasma's picture for the next couple days until the display phosphors loose the memory effect. Sure, the "burn-in" issue is fixed, but the ghosting thing is still real annoying. Whatever. To summarize: I couldn't be happier with this tv and feel it was well worth the purchase price. Amazon was a pleasure to buy from, and Eagle got the tv to me without any issues. A+

5It's not a plasma?
By Alex Garcia
When they delivered my LNT4065F I thought I had received the wrong TV. It looks like a plasma... By far, this TV blows all the other LCD TVs that I've seen. How many TVs can boast a 15000:1 contrast ratio. The colors on this TV are stunning. The "dynamic" setting is almost too bright at night. The blacks and whites show up very nicely.I am also surprised at how decent the quality is for upscaled DVDs (HDMI 1080i) and Tivo content. When in 1080p mode, the quality is almost too good. While watching "King Kong" on HD-DVD, the detail was so amazing that the people looked blue-screened against the digital backgrounds. XBox 360 looks absolutely amazing in 1080p mode.Although I use a surround sound system for my audio, my Tivo content runs the audio through the TV. The audio quality is very good for an internal system.Extremely minor complaint: The TV's internal sound system only does 2 channel audio. However, there is a digital optical out for connecting to a surround sound system. I have not yet found a way to pass 5.1 channel sound through the unit's optical out. So when I play DVDs, I mute the TV's internal sound. For the price, quality and features, this is a very minor inconvenience that's perfectly tolerable. The only complaints I had heard about older Samsung HDTVs were about the glowing blue Samsung LED on the front of the unit that could not be turned off. This unit fixes that with a menu option to keep off the external light. Nice!

5Most excellent picture, sound, remote, setup & interface...
By Matthew J. Molina Jr.
This is an excellent product in every way !!! Including a guarantee of "No Defective Bright Pixels" !!! -- The picture is outstanding from ANY angle ,,, truly no fade-out at the sides !!! I'm impressed. The Wizard setup is a piece-of-cake ,,, Just click OK. The Menus are navigable and comprehensible i.e. If confused choose "standard".The high quality REMOTE, which is stable when standing upright, feels comfortable in my hand, has a nice weight, a soft felt back and easy to reach and comprehend buttons. Remote response time is immediate [after initial channel download]. The angle of Remote Control to TV reception is near 90 degrees; if you can see the screen ,,, so can the remote :-)The SOUND quality is MOST excellent. Not tinny or muffled !!! I have it set at 30, out of 100, and I can easily hear and understand as I walk throughout my home. A marked difference from other TV's I've owned where the audio becomes garbled, muffled and I can't understand at any volume. The CONNECTORS are of ALL TYPES and are mounted on both the back and the side. They are clearly labeled for their function ,,, and correspond to the Remote Control buttons.I just took delivery of my Vizio today. Before purchase I read criticisms on another website ,,, those criticisms ARE BOGUS in my view. This product is MOST EXCELLENT !!! In every way !!! Maybe all of the criticisms have been addressed by VISIO ??? This Model has been out since at least 2006, sale price at that time $1,000.00.The setup took me 5 minutes out-of-the-box !!! --Oh yeah ,,, there's another nice feature, a built-in remote mounted on the side for those who can't keep track of that "mobile" remote control :-)

5I love this TV
By E. Paulson
I decided that it was finally time to do something about the 15-year old 19" CRT I've been using in the bedroom, and I spent weeks looking at every 32" LCD TV sold in the area (many trips to Best Buy, Sears, Target, Walmart, anywhere that carried TVs). I thought I had convinced myself that the Sony XBR6 or XBR9 was the right choice. However, last week Target had these on sale for $519, and I had another 10% off anything, so the final price was about $470 - 400 less than the Sony. The display Vizio looked decent, and I decided to take a chance. I could not be happier that I did.The picture looks great. I thought that the refresh rate would be too slow and I'd be annoyed at motion artifacts, but on my test sequences I haven't noticed a thing. In fact, I've moved the Blu Ray player to be attached to this TV instead of my Philips CRT HDTV because the picture is considerably better - the text on the PS3 is finally actually readable.I have no idea what the heck the "Java" in the name means, but it's not any sort of annoying software running on the TV getting in the way of just watching TV.If I had one complaint, it's that analog cable looks terrible on this TV. Maybe I just didn't figure out the right settings for it and it would work fine, but in the end it didn't really matter - I needed a second HD set top box from my cable company for $5 a month to get the HD lineup anyway, and through box the SD channels look pretty good. As a bonus, this TV switches between HD and SD very fast, unlike my other HDTV.Finally, I think this is about as close to an "American" TV as you can actually buy, though it's OEMed in Taiwan. For this price, I don't think you can go wrong. Maybe I would have liked the Sony a bit better, but I'm happier that I saved the $400 and have a TV I really like.

5Vizio Ranked Above a Sony Bravia by Consumer Reports, I agree
By DC Maxx
Got this TV to replace my old 35" Sony 2 Tuner (analog) PIP set that was 11 years old that died last weekend with a 'pop'. High Voltage transformer blw & TV shop said it wasn't worth repairing since I had analog tuners in it. Plus it was a beast sized TV, all 200 lbs of it. I had researched TV's online and pretty much convinced myself that getting a SONY 32XBR9 or getting a Sony Bravia L series 32" would be my best move. Until I wondered into a [...] store in the mall. I had seen the display at Best Buy but those TV's are all mounted on the wall. However the [...] display had them all lined up so you could touch them & operate the Volume controls at viewing level. One thing I found out was, the Vizio picture was equal to ANYONE's picture. Despite what Sony had in the past, this TV is equally as capable with a High Definition signal or a Standard Definition signal (like from DBS satellite)I must admit I am normally biased to Sony, but Sony doesn't have a thing on this TV except Sony does make a better remote. Thats the only complaint I have about the TV ... the remote is bland, not lit and very lightweight. But since I do have SD Directv Satellite. I have already purchased a lighted remote for the Satellite & my Satellite Remote will work this Vizio, so I am good to go.The Vizio ran me 499 but it is ONSale for [...] members right now until 9/30/09 in the store <50> off. The projected cost for the Sony Bravia of the same specs is 649. and the cost of a Sony XBR9 32" was to be 999 at Best Buy. I bought the Vizio after checking the ON screen menu which is in a very readable orange color; the volume levels of the TV were checked too (the Vizio is louder then the Sharp 32" or a Panasonic 32" , volume seems the same as the Sony models) I must say that the thing that impressed me somewhat and made me take a second look at the Vizio is that Consumer Reports October 2009 issue had a LAB TEST where they rated the Vizio 32" the best . Seeing is believing!! I must agree the rear hookups connection capabilities, Vizio even has a jack for headphones, the Sony models do not. But the Sony models all have significantly higher prices... Sony.. you cant rest on your past laurels; you got to show me where its worth the extra money... times are tight.Regarding Motionflow technology... That's something you can't see unless you have a TV screen that is 40" or above.. so it wasn't a factor for a 32" TV. Vizio doesn't mention whether it is 60Hz or what speed it is. But I couldn't notice any blurring in its picture even when viewing a tennis match.Got to agree with Consumer Reports, this is the best Value for the money.

1Will Never Purchase A Philips Product Again
By Badger
Bought one of these 2 days after Thanksgiving and had a good experience with it for a month. Two days after Christmas I heard a noise like a pebble striking a windshield. I turned from the kitchen to see the picture closing as if a movie were fading to black, only it wasn't a movie. The plasma display had cracked. The actual exterior screen is intact but the display beneath it has been compromised. Philips says that it isn't covered by them - that I must have "done something to it". I'd also like to echo the sentiments of many other reviews on Amazon and elsewhere - their customer service is absolutely awful. Unfortunately I am unable to give this item a zero stars rating.

5Excellent Television
By Falcontech
I recently purchased this TV from Sam's Club for $994.00 and am very pleased with my purchase. The resolution is great and the colors are very true to life. The black quality is excellent and the controls are extremely easy to use with the menu system being a breeze to navigate through. The setup was simple and the included stand was rock solid. I haven't viewed any HD broadcasts yet as I don't have HD cable but Digital cable, DVD's and VHS's look crystal clear. I would recommend this TV to anyone.

1Avoid Phillips TV's - bad product and customer service
By G. Nelson
Save yourself a headache and avoid this product and all Philips Plasma's. If you take your chances and buy a Philips plasma, you might as well buy the extended service contract as you will likely need it.I purchased the Philips 42in Plasma TV a little over a year ago and it started showing a thin red line vertically in the middle of the screen at about month 11. It was still under warranty and called customer service. The repair shop picked it up a few days later. This was in the beginning of December. It is now March and they have replaced several parts without fixing it.Here is the current workflow.1. Repair shop orders a part from Philips.2. Philips reviews the order to decide whether or not to give permission to ship the part since it is under Warranty.3. Philips reviews the order and eventually gives permission to send the part. (this seems to take 3 weeks each time)4. The part arrives 7-10 days later.Part doesn't fix the TV and it starts all over.Customer service has no way to track the status because it is in a different system. The repair shop has no way of tracking it because philips has to give them an Order number and this doesnt happen until they give permission to ship the part.Anyhow, when you call customer service, their only function is to tap dance around until you get aggravated and bored and get off the phone. They may promise callbacks, but it never happens. I even got one of their supervisors to admit that they provide service, but not good service.I have a friend with the comparable Samsung that he got at about the same time and it works fine. Also I have anotehr friend with the Sony and it works pretty well, but pricier.I have never had a TV break in the less than a year, but this one did and a neighbor purchased one as well and it lasted only 15 months was too costly to fix.Picture actually wasnt bad. just poor quality.

Product Description

42 Inch Diagonal Plasma TV with Built-In ATSC/QAM/NTSC Tuners and Up to 4000:1 Contrast Ratio Deep Blacks, Bright Whites, and Lush Colors The realism of a TV's image is strongly linked to its contrast ratio, and this plasma features a high contrast ratio of up to 4000:1. Such a wide range from black to white means great depth and dimensionality with vibrant colors. Deep blacks provide excellent shadow detail during dark scenes, while brilliant whites allow our plasmas to render bright scenes with vivid realism. A Single Cable Carries High-Quality Digital Audio and Video If you have even a moderately complicated home theater setup, you probably have a pile of tangled cables on the floor behind it. Imagine replacing all those cables with a single cable that carries both digital video and audio at the same time. With the new HDMI standard, that's exactly what you get. The HDMI connector on this TV accepts high-quality digital video and audio via the same thin cable, allowing you to run one cable from the source to the TV. A Cinema-Style Viewing Experience At Home This widescreen TV features a width-to-height ratio similar to movie theater screens, providing a theater-like experience at home. View widescreen broadcasts and widescreen DVDs the way they were meant to be seen. 1. Panel contrast ratio.

5Love this TV...best picture in store even though EDTV
By B. Weber
I have had several TVs in the past 5 years, 2 projection Sonys, a Wega, and I can tell you this is the TV for under 2200 to end them all. I didn't want to spend over 2k on a tv because it just seems like over kill. I wanted to get an HDTV, because I had one before that was a sony projection. That was until I saw this one in the store. I talked to the guy at Bestbuy and he said that they haven't put this one out because they wanted to move some of their older models first. This TV will produce as good of a picture as any at the store. I sat and looked at all of the options, and money aside, not one TV at best buy or circuit city produced as good of a picture as this one. I have brought it home and have been watching it for a week or so. DVDs look great, XBOX with the colorstream cable looks awesome as well. I am still waiting for my HD box to arrive, so that I can hook up the HDMI cable. I couldn't be happier than with this TV. This is the first non Sony TV I have ever bought, and so far I am not disappointed.Since my first comments have been getting a lot of feedback, I figured it would be a good idea to give a follow up to those still on the fence.1) I received the HD box, and it looks even better. I connected with an HDMI cable which eliminates component cables and uses just one small connector, which controls all three component inputs as well as the audio to the TV (which most people use their receiver, but this is a nice option to have). Do not buy this cable from BB or CC, they WAY over charge. I bought one for $20 from some website and it works great, they charge well over $100.2) I wall mounted the TV, directly across from a large window, and there is minimal glare. This is a window that produces a lot of light, and the picture is still fine even at high noon.3) I went back and doubly compared the picture, and once again I believe the picture on this TV to be as good as any high end Sony out there. I am not naive, I understand lines of resolution and the down conversion of the HD signal should in theory not produce as crisp of a picture as an HD set, but from my point of view it does to the naked eye.Answer to question:How is this TV's picture when you play your regular DVDs and especially non HD (but digital) satellite signal. I recently baught a Sony Wega LCD projection TV that is high definition but realized channels like CNN look blurry, espcially when I play some of my DVDs etc...This TVs pixels are pretty small, so the regular picture is good, especially on DVDs because DVDs native resolution is 480 which is the resolution for EDTVs. When you play DVDs on an HDTV it actually has to down convert it. To be honest the TV looks MUCH better with colorstream component cables or HDMI versus s-video. Same goes for DVDs, the three separate components look much better than S-video did. You may want to try that on your Vega. Also it depends on the size of the TV, the bigger the TV the blurrier the picture is going to seem, versus the HD signal. I noticed that as well on my 57" Sony projection that I had. I would say the difference is much less on this plasma. I can't really speak for other plasmas, and the comparison I made in the store were all on HD signals, so you can't compare it to normal digital channels.I did originally have this going through standard digital cable and an S-video cable, and per Panasonic the "viera" filter this tv has helps smooth it out. But I did notice a difference switching to HDMI.ONLY BAD THING:No front AV inputs, it is starting to get on my nervers on occassion because I have it wall mounted, so way to reach back to plug it in.

5Can be breathtaking
By Mark Mc
This unit will create a breathtaking display, depending on the source, and I give it 5 stars for that ability. At the moment, I'm using a non-progressive scan DVD player and movies look terrific. They are as good as or better than what I've seen in theaters. Upgrading to an HDMI enabled progressive scan player might improve the picture, but I can't imagine paying hundreds of dollars for that privilege. And I'm not sure it would do the trick anyway, because the TH-42PD50U is configured to take any signal and attempt to scale it to the optimal number of lines. Anyway, I'll wait until the HDMI capable players are at commodity prices. And, you might like to know that depending on the movie, you will not get an edge to edge picture with DVDs. You'll still get the black bands top and bottom in most cases. That said, TV is another affair... At first I attempted to use an analog cable feed. All I got was a large picture without much clarity. I upgraded to Time Warner HD programming. That gives you maybe 15 HD channels, in my case 2 of which are HBO HD. Figure another 20 bucks a month for the HD box plus HBO. And that's not the end of it. TNT HD and Discover HD have fabulous pictures that take full advantage of the Panny's abilities. HBO HD is very good, and gives you edge to edge picture with most movies and series. Networks are another thing. If you're looking to watch Monday Night Football in HD, you may be disappointed. Maybe not in all markets, but in mine sporting events are hit and miss. Today I was watching the Ohio State game on HD. The foreground was very clear, but when showing the typical field shot, the picture turned kinda fuzzy. Conversely, watching the Browns game last Sunday, it was as clear as if I were watching the game through a window, regardless of the camera's focus. Moreover, the colors were saturated. So, it appears that some HD broadcasts are better than others, or possibly some local stations are better feeds than others. The point is, you may get a mediocre picture even though it is in HD.Now, knowing all this, would I buy it now? You bet.

5Best bet for the price range -- incredibly clear HD picture for EDTV
By Mr. Bun Bun
Don't settle for the cheapest plasma you can get -- what's the point of a big screen full of low resolution and fuzzy picture? I was going to "settle" for a 30 inch LCD and decided to go for more real estate. 40 inch LCDs are way out of my price range, and I realized during comparison shopping at Best Buy and other brick and mortar stores, that I acutally PREFER plasma to LCD pictures. Something about plasma to me seems more alive and real and the colors seemed brighter. Maybe this was just in my head to justify the expense of a 42 inch plasma, but I'm happy with plasma versus LCD. It's a totally subjective preference so I suggest you comparison shop and not listen or read what the 'experts' have to say. I was going to go for the cheapest plasma with a decent image quality I could find -- but then I started looking for the plasma s in this size range with the best overall ratings. The TH-42PD50U was at the top of the heap as far as meeting qualiy and price. The tie-breaker was that the TH-42PD50U comes with the stand and speakers -- stands and speakers alone will add a hundreds of dollars to your tv price if you have to purchase them separately. Definitely the best package for the quality. And what quality. I was expecting a so-so picture quality, having been unimpressed with so called "HD tv's" and HD signals in DLP and flat screen CRT screens. The HD channels, using generic component cables, IS AMAZING!!! AWESOME PICTURE!!!! I'm not easily impressed and I'm very picky, but the picture quality was sharp as cut glass, the black were black, the colors were deep and real -- truly a TV that I can be satisifed staying home and watching movies in comfort as opposed to dropping $10 for a noisy cineplex. I'm already saving money that way. The great reviews for this tv are not hype. I was skeptical at first but very pleasantly surprised. Good amount of connections, including HDMI. Even though this is EDTV, it displays in 1080i which is the display quality of HDTV. Personally, I have no idea what makes an HDTV if not the ability to display in 1080i, which the EDTV TH-42PD50U does. The picture quality of HD channels in the TH-42PD50U BLOWS AWAY other "real" HDTV screens in the same size range. Believe the reviews and test it out for yourself. I am SOOOO happy I bought this TV. It was a little over my budget range, but it's an investment. I am very happy with the quality of this TV and will have TV until for a long time as opposed to spending a few hundred dollars less on a TV I'm disappointed with and want to upgrade quickly. Highly recommended.
